India Meteorological Department (IMD) has alerted that Cyclone Montha which is developing over the Bay of Bengal is expected to become a Severe Cyclonic Storm on Tuesday morning (October 28). The system is predicted to cross the coast between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam, close to Kakinada, by Tuesday evening or night, and is expected to accompany 90–100 km/h winds, gusts up to 110 km/h, and heavy rainfall across the coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha.

Authorities have warned that the residents living in the low-lying and coastal areas must stay alert as the cyclone is getting stronger.

🌀 CM Naidu Orders Immediate Evacuation

On Monday, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, N. Chandrababu Naidu, ordered the officials to evacuate the coastal population to the safer places, i.e., shelters and rehabilitation centres, immediately before the cyclone hits the area.

In a review meeting with the district collectors and disaster management officials, Naidu stressed on the need to save lives i.e. zero loss of life and quick displacement of people from the high-risk areas. He also called for continuous cooperation between departments for rescue, relief, and power restoration across the board.

“Our priority is to keep every citizen safe. The district authorities should always be prepared and evacuate the people according to the plans without any delay,” Naidu stated.

⚠️ Andhra Pradesh on High Alert

The state government has put itself on the highest alert possible as Cyclone Montha gradually approaches the shore. Both Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and Minister Nara Lokesh have been following the situation very closely through the Real-Time Governance Society (RTGS) war room, communicating with the district officials and central agencies.

More than 400 relief camps have been set up in the coastal and low-lying areas and NDRF and SDRF teams have been completely mobilized to perform emergency rescue operations.

✈️ Flight Disruptions: IndiGo Issues Advisory

In light of the weather conditions getting worse, IndiGo Airlines has issued a travel advisory for its passengers who are flying to and from Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, and Rajahmundry.

The airline mentioned that strong winds and heavy rain are the causes of the disruption in the flight operations. Passengers are advised to check their flight status at goIndiGo.in before arriving at the airport and allow for more travel time as there is expected to be traffic jams and waterlogging.

In the event of cancellations, passengers can either rebook the flights or claim refunds via bit.ly/IndiGoRefund.

“Your safety as well as your comfort is our utmost concern. Please be careful and take care of yourself,” IndiGo stated.

The IMD forecasts Cyclone Montha The storm will continue on a northwest route and increase in strength before landfall by Tuesday evening.

The cyclone is predicted to bring heavy rain, storm surge, and strong winds to the coastal districts including Kakinada, Krishna, Konaseema, East and West Godavari, and Visakhapatnam.
